Meet the founders behind Coils to Locs × The Donna Jean Hair Restoration Clinic: Wig Confidence Begins with Knowledge.

Dianne Austin & Pamela Shaddock — Coils to Locs

Coils to Locs was inspired by personal experiences with hair loss. While Dianne navigated breast cancer treatment, she struggled to find wigs that matched her natural hair, while Pamela experienced traction alopecia. Together, they founded Coils to Locs in 2019 to help provide better textured-hair wig options.

Victor Scotti, Jr. — The Donna Jean Hair Restoration Clinic

Victor founded The Donna Jean Hair Restoration Clinic in honor of his late mother. His clinic specializes in custom cranial prostheses and medical wigs designed for the healing scalp and natural curly, coily, and kinky textures.

‘We are a movement’: Dorchester native hosts event to raise awareness for alopecia - Dorchester Reporter 09/25/2026

We're so grateful to the Dorchester Reporter for covering The Install! 💛

Last Saturday at Boston City Hall, Dianne and I joined Arlene Baldwin of LaceLayer for a powerful afternoon during Alopecia Awareness Month. We shared the stage with Wonder R. Hollingsworth of Awareness Project Network and Danielle "Ms. HotSauce" Johnson of Spark FM Online to talk openly about hair loss, wigs, and reclaiming confidence.

For us, this conversation is personal. Coils to Locs began when Dianne, going through cancer treatment, couldn't find a single wig in a Boston hospital that looked like her. Today, we partner with hospitals nationwide, including Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, and Massachusetts General Hospital so women with textured hair can find themselves in the options available to them.

Congratulations to Arlene and Andrade on Lace Layer's recognition from Mayor Wu's office, and thank you to everyone who came out, shared their stories, and showed up for one another. We are a movement. ✊🏾

"Feeling like yourself should not be another thing you have to fight for."

That sentence is the whole reason Coils to Locs exists.

When our co-founder Dianne was going through treatment, she had insurance coverage for a wig and still couldn't find one that matched her hair texture in three different hospital boutiques. So we, two sisters, decided to build what was missing: premium textured wigs designed for women with 3C to 4C hair, available in hospital boutiques, cancer centers, and online.

We had the honor of taking part in The Install: Wigs, Identity & The Women Who Wear Them, hosted by Arlene Baldwin of LaceLayer. This portrait is from the gallery session. Arlene, thank you for bringing together such an honest, joyful room of women and for giving these stories the spotlight they deserve.
