Creating chrome nails is a challenge, and many attempts on social media fall short. Nail techs often follow basic steps involving a no-wipe top coat, rubbing in chrome powder, and applying base and top coats. However, this approach often results in a bulky, low-quality look. Chrome powder can amplify nail thickness, especially when combined with additional layers of base and top coats necessary to create the look and prevent chipping.
To counteract the excess bulk resulting from these layers, some steps can be skipped, but this does come with a trade-off. By avoiding the usual structuring steps, the nail's structural integrity might be compromised, risking potential weakness. Moreover, when we skip the traditional structuring of the nail, we still have to ensure a smooth and even nail surface before applying the chrome powder. Otherwise, chrome will highlight all the defects like bumps and 'love handles'.

And that’s why chrome nails are not easy, but actually require nail techs to use their brain to figure out how to modify all the steps to achieve the desired effect while maintaining proper nail structure.
This goes to any other art work. It’s not enough to know a bunch of designs. A GOOD nail tech must COMPREHEND the entirety of their craft's elements and its interplay with the technical procedures.
