Brides, if you’re planning to wear a traditional South Asian saree on your wedding day, please, PLEASE give yourself time to get dressed!

From my experience helping brides, I recommend allowing 30 minutes to an hour for dressing, draping, and pinning your saree. Trust me, it sounds like a lot, but you’ll need it! That time goes FAST! 😅

The little details matter: where it’s tucked, how long it falls, and which details you want to show.

Draping styles vary by region and personal preference, so make sure whoever is helping you knows how to create YOUR look. Try on your outfit and practice together before the wedding day.

In this video with my bride Lisa, there wasn’t a bridal party or anyone else to handle those little details at that moment, except her father and me. I checked her hair and makeup, fixed her dress, laid out her train, adjusted her veil, and made sure everything was perfect before she walked down the aisle.

Moments like this remind me why my job is more than just hair and makeup. I want my bride to feel supported. I don’t want her worrying about whether her veil is sitting right, whether her train looks good, or if anything is out of place. I want her to be present in that moment and think, ‘I’m about to get married.’

There are brides who have a whole village of people who naturally will take care of these little details, and some who don’t.

When you have that calm, dependable person beside you who knows what to look for and what needs to be done, it feels different. That’s what I want for my brides — to feel cared for, supported, so they can fully enjoy one of the biggest moments of their lives.

My first time wearing a traditional South Indian saree, and I draped it myself! And let me tell you… Draping a saree on myself is so much harder than draping one on my brides.
