Raise prices before Christmas or in January? Before Christmas +âŹ3 on 40 jobs a week over the ten busiest weeks is âŹ1,200 before January arrives, and clients are least price-sensitive in December. In January youâre raising in your quietest month, just as new costs land. Raise when youâre busy, not when youâre broke. In Round 2 youâd have new prices set by 19 October. (Example figures, not VAT registered.)
Three things to do before January: 1) cost your team at the new rate, the true cost, not the payslip, 2) raise prices a little before Christmas, spread across your jobs, 3) if you sell vouchers, put aside what the January work will cost you. Three jobs in October and January is calm.
After todayâs Budget, every employer has a choice: price for it now, calmly, a little on each job through the busiest weeks, or find out on your first January payroll, in your quietest month. The first takes a clear head and a bit of work. Thatâs what Round 2 is for, and youâd have new prices set by the end of week one. We start Monday 12 October. Doors close Friday 9 October at midnight.

Which life are you looking for?
A âŹ15 haircut and a âŹ45 haircut can put the exact same money in your till.
30 clients a day at âŹ15 = âŹ450.
10 clients a day at âŹ45 = âŹ450.
Same takings. One of them has you on your feet until 10pm, too tired to enjoy any of it. The other has you home on the couch with the people (and the dogsđ
đ¶đ¶) youâre doing it all for.
Cheap prices donât make you more money. They just make your days longer.
fewer clients also means less product, less laundry, less wear on you. So âthe same moneyâ often ends up being more in your pocket.
But you canât just pick a higher price out of the air. You need to know your numbers firstâŠyour VAT, your real costs, your tax, and what you actually need to charge to pay yourself properly.
Thatâs exactly what we do in my 6-Week Business Mentorship. Plain and simple language, no judgement, and no accountancy degree needed. Youâre not bad with money. Nobody ever showed you.
We start 12 October. Link in bio, or head to CatrionaHolt.com to join us.
busy isnât the same as paid, your wage is a cost and not whateverâs left, and the numbers arenât scary once someone explains them, the not knowing is. I learned them the hard way. You donât have to. Round 2 starts Monday 12 October. Doors close Friday 9 October at midnight.

đ your diary is full but your bank account doesnât feel like it, this oneâs for you.
You pay the rent. The stock. The team. The accountant. Somehow youâre always last on the list.
You put your prices up, apologised for it, and still arenât sure you charge enough. And every time someone mentions VAT or tax, thereâs that quiet knot in your stomach.
Hereâs what I want you to hear. None of that means youâre bad at business.
It means nobody ever sat you down and showed you your own numbers. Not the accountant, not the course you did. Youâve been running a business blindfolded and blaming yourself for bumping into things.
Imagine instead knowing, every single week, exactly what you need to take, what youâre keeping, and whatâs safely set aside. Not hoping itâs okay. Knowing it is. Sleeping properly. Saying your prices out loud without flinching.
Thatâs exactly what we do in the 6-Week Business Mentorship. Six weeks, six calculators, and a live Zoom every Monday at 10am where a small group of owners works out their real numbers, together. You walk out with a plan you actually understand.
The next group starts Monday 12th October.
Youâve carried this on your own for long enough.

đ what does one hour of your business cost? A âŹ1,400 week over 45 open hours sounds like âŹ31. But you only SELL about 30 of those hours, so the real meter is âŹ1,400 Ă· 30 = âŹ46.67 an hour, running whether the diaryâs full or not. Link in bio to book a call (Example figures.)
