Chest breakouts are really common, but they can be caused by a number of different factors — and understanding the cause is the first step towards treating them effectively. 🤍

So, what can cause chest breakouts?

🔸 Sweat & heat – Sweat sitting on the skin, especially after exercise, can mix with oil and dead skin cells and contribute to blocked pores.

🔸 Friction – Tight clothing, sports bras and synthetic fabrics can trap heat and cause irritation, leading to what’s often called acne mechanica.

🔸 Hair & body products – Shampoos, conditioners, oils, body lotions and SPF can sometimes contain ingredients that clog pores or irritate the chest area.

🔸 Hormonal changes – Fluctuations in hormones can increase oil production and trigger breakouts, particularly around certain times of the month.

🔸 Bacteria & clogged pores – Just like facial acne, excess oil, dead skin cells and bacteria can combine to create congestion and inflammation.

🔸 Not showering soon after exercise – Leaving sweat and bacteria on the skin for prolonged periods can make breakouts more likely.
